A SHOP boss has appeared in court accused of causing unnecessary suffering to at least 27 reptiles.
David Luther, 66, of East Close, South Shields, is alleged to have failed to provide the animals with the correct environment at the town’s Harton Aquatics in Moor Lane.
South Tyneside magistrates yesterday heard the animals included a king snake, royal python, a bearded dragon, baby boa and a leopard gecko.
Mr Luther was charged with 10 offences after the RSPCA investigation.
His case was adjourned and he is due at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court next month.
