Some people say all babies are cute, but what about snake babies? Some new ones have slithered into The Toledo Zoo!
The West African Gaboon Vipirs have given birth to a couple dozen babies. Two females recently gave live birth to about a dozen babies each. The snakes are venomous and have triangular-shaped heads to accommodate their long fangs, which can grow up to two inches.
“One of them had 27, and a few of them died right after birth. That tends to happen. Another one had 20 babies, so right now we have 37 live babies,” says herpetologist John Chastain
You can see the adults on display in the reptile house now. The babies are still too young for viewing.
