A tenant of an East Irving Street duplex was alarmed by an unwelcome visitor Tuesday night while doing laundry in the basement. She discovered a slithering four-foot long corn snake.
Oshkosh police received a phone call at 8:03 p.m. from the extremely upset tenant who did not know her neighbor kept the snake as a pet. Corn snakes are non-venomous.
Police used a device called a snare to catch the snake and transport it safely back to its cage, said Sgt. Matt Kroening.
The snake, usually kept in a cage, somehow “wiggled its way out” without the owner realizing it, Kroening said.
