Two long snakes were slithering around the Santa Ana River Jetties just off the beach in Newport, creeping out beachgoers who stopped to marvel as they weaved between rocks.
It’s unknown how many of the snakes are living in the rocks, but one of them reached at least 5-foot in length, the other a bit smaller. The larger one was the width of a wrist.
“That thing is huge, that’s the fat one,” said Harrison Maner as he creeped up to the larger one. “Look at its fat tail. I’m gonna get it. Crikey!”
As he picked up the smaller snake, he stretched it out from the rocks. It curled up, and he dropped it and jumped back, screaming words I can not repeat.
“That gave me the jitters, all through my body,” he said.
A call into Newport Beach animal control to find out what kind of snakes these are, whether they are common here, or how they got here has not been returned. Anyone out there a snake expert who can tell us what kind they are in the comments section below?
