A renegade 4m crocodile with three feet will be moved to a croc farm after spending two nights in the police lockup in North Queensland.
The croc was captured by rangers and Queensland Parks and Wildlife staff after he began chasing anglers at a popular fishing spot near the small community of Pormpuraaw on the Cape York Peninsula.
Pormpuraaw Wild River Rangers built a trap for the crocodile last Thursday and by Monday morning the three-footed reptile had been caught.
Rangers restrained the croc and transported it to the local police station where a temporary compound had been set up.
“Wild crocodiles are a part of the way of life in the shire but this animal was removed because it was displaying abnormal behaviour — that presented a high risk to people,” ranger Robbie Morris told ninemsn.
“The crocodile will be moved to Edward River Crocodile Farm this afternoon.”
Senior ranger Lenny Ned said the local rangers had been training at nearby Lakefield National Park, which helped with the trapping and transporting of the large crocodile.
As well as missing a foot, the croc had lost part of its tail, and rangers believed it may have occurred during territorial fighting with other crocodiles in the area.
