Lagos, Nigeria – Rampaging snakes killed three persons out of the 189 people who were beaten by the reptiles in March alone, according to the Nigerian government Snake Bite Centre in Kaltungo, northern Gombe state.
The local media Monday quoted the Medical officer in charge of the centre, Dr. Saidu Ballahsaid, as saying incidents of snake bites were expected to rise this month.
He explained that cases of snake bites usually peak around March and April, when temperatures are at the highest and a period when the reptiles come out in large numbers.
Dr. Ballah noted, however, that the federal government had already supplied the centre with sufficient quantity of anti-snake venom, while the state government has also assisted the centre with 60 viles of the anti-snake bite drugs.
