A BOY is in a stable condition after being bitten by a snake on a golf course in Melbourne’s southwest.
The boy, 12, was with his parents at the Sanctuary Lakes golf course in Point Cook when he felt a bite to his leg at 1.15pm (AEDT) on Saturday.
Paramedics said his father, who had been bitten by a snake 12 months ago, put a makeshift tourniquet on the bite and kept his son calm until an ambulance arrived.
He was taken to the Royal Melbourne Children’s Hospital where he was in a stable condition.
Paramedic Bryan Chesson, a clinical support officer, says people should be aware of snakes at this time of year.
“We’ve had hot weather and a lot of rain and with kids on holidays, running around barefoot in long grass, they can come into contact with snakes,” Mr Chesson said.
