The accused was remanded in custody after failing to posting a bond of Sh100,000 or a cash bail of Sh50,000 and a surety of a similar amount.
The trial was led by a Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) prosecutor Edna Mwalenga.
She was accused of possessing 25 different snake species, one monitor lizard, six chameleons and 13 tortoises without a certificate from the Director of Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) on November 11 at Bachuma Gate.
The snakes included pythons and venomous species like spitting cobras and black mambas. An attempt by the accused to have the snakes released back to her was rejected by the court.
“I have documents to support my possession of the animals and I also pray for bond. I pray that the animals be released to me as they may die of hunger. They were supposed to be fed yesterday,” the accused pleaded in court.
The prosecution said the animals could not be produced in court as exhibits saying they were highly venomous.
The court ruled that the exhibits be preserved by KWS until the determination of the case.
The snakes, the court ordered, should be transferred to Mombasa Snake Park pending the hearing and determination of the case.
The case will be mentioned on November 24 and hearing was fixed on January 3 next year.
