JUDY Stone wants to warn tourists and locals that snakes are active around Picnic Point recreation areas.
Ms Stone took a stroll around the decommissioned Picnic Point waterfall and was shocked to see several snakes that appeared to be Eastern browns.
“I went to go down to the waterfall and my son pointed out a snake on the concrete steps of the lookout,” she said.
“Then we saw another one along the edge of the drop-off heading towards the path and there were people everywhere.
“I warned all the people I could see around that there was a snake just on the other side of the hedge.”
She is uncertain of the total but believes she saw three, possibly four snakes in the area.
She and her son were surprised to see them in such a busy area and contacted Toowoomba Regional Council out of concern.
“My son rang the council and we expected them to send out a wildlife expert to move the snake, but their comment was that they are in their natural environment,” she said
“I completely agree, but it probably wouldn’t hurt to warn tourists with a little sign.”
