COLLIER COUNTY, Florida — A Florida man is showing off an unbelievable prize: a nine-foot long Burmese python that he killed with his bare hands.
Tony Hamm says he was driving on U.S. 41 near Seminole State Park in Collier County when he saw something big in the road. Hamm and his two passengers thought it was a snake and made a U-turn to see for sure.
“All three of us jumped out of the truck. I run over, I’m the first one to the snake, ” said Hamm.
With his bare hands, Hamm grabbed the snake’s tail and pulled it over the guardrail. Hamm then used a small pocket knife to cut off the python’s head.
“Without the head it’s 9 feet, one inch,” said Hamm.
Florida Fish and Wildlife says what Hamm did is exactly right. They’re battling an invasion of non-native species and have recently opened a hunting season for pythons.
