It only makes sense that the former “Big Unit” of the Arizona Diamondbacks would help the Phoenix Herpetological Society’s reptile sanctuary.
Randy Johnson has been volunteering at the reptile refuge for a few years with his children.
Johnson won the Cy Young Award four times while pitching for the Diamondbacks from 1999 to 2004 and 2007 to 2008.
He was at a news conference Monday as the society kicked off its drive to raise $175,000 to build a classroom at its north Scottsdale reptile sanctuary.
The 2.5-acre Phoenix Herpetological Society site is a sanctuary for more than 400 native and nonnative alligators, crocodiles, turtles, lizards and venomous and non-venomous snakes.
