A pregnant garter snake has been found in the Stephenville area. Snake enthusiast Dean Goudie says government called him in to identify the animal. Garter snakes are not native to Newfoundland and Labrador. Goudie says they are still unsure if the animal was brought into the province already pregnant, or if it had mated here in the province. Garter snakes have made it into the province before on farm shipments, like hay bales. Goudie says the animal has been brought to the Salmonier Nature Park for observation and study.
