JANESVILLE — Janesville police are seeking the whereabouts of a large monitor lizard sighted twice Tuesday.
Amber Downing reported the initial sighting at 3:35 p.m. in the 600 block of Williams St., said Lt. Terrence Sheridan.
Six hours later, Tracy Smith was driving in the area of Hyatt and Thomas Streets when the headlights of his vehicle caught a “large green lizard 4.5 to 5 feet long” in his line of vision, he told police.
When police arrived on Williams Street, the lizard was gone.
Later, Smith saw the lizard escape into the sewer drain where he was.
Police urge anyone who sees this lizard to call (608) 757-2244.
“We ask that people in the area keep an eye out and if they see it don’t approach it. Give us a call so we can come and catch the thing,” Sheridan said.
