CHICAGO (AP) – The hunt is on after another alligator was spotted along the Chicago River.
On Aug. 6, a 2 1/2-foot-long gator was captured along the river on Chicago’s North Side. Experts say it appeared to have been a pet that was released in the area.
On Sunday, Chicagoan Sararose Krenger and her family spotted a 3 to 5-foot alligator basking in the sun while they were boating on the North Branch of the river. Krenger says the gator was watching some ducks swim by.
The family called police. Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Anne Dwyer says 1 of the officers saw the alligator but it slipped away before animal control officials arrived.
Dwyer says an alligator hunter will be setting traps to capture the reptile.
