About 19 sea turtles, rescued from the Gulf of Mexico and cleaned of oil, arrived in Orlando today to continue their rehabilitation at SeaWorld Orlando.
The turtles are endangered Kemp’s Ridley and sea turtles which were just transferred from Panama City Beach,
This is the second group of sea turtles that have been sent to SeaWorld Orlando’s rescue and rehabilitation facility for further care. As they are rescued from the Gulf, the reptiles are thoroughly cleaned of oil, but then are transferred to make room for more animals.
Park officials said the reptiles are in stable condition but will require more medical treatment before they are ready to be released back into the wild.
SeaWorld Orlando has already released five of its first batch of 12 Gulf sea turtles off southwest Florida on July 8.
