Serial Tortoise Thief At Large
Dartford tortoise owners have started to bring their tortoises in when they aren’t around to watch over them at and night for fear that they will be stolen.
Six tortoises have been stolen from gardens in the area of Dartford, Kent, in the past month alone.
The slow moving reptiles are easy prey for a thief and they can be sold for hundreds of pounds on the tortoise black market.
The stolen tortoises include three spur-thighed tortoises and a very rare African leopard tortoise.
Police say that investigations are continuing but progress is slow.
