Steve Irwin’s zoo faces closure
Yes that right. The zoo sight a massive loss of income do to a down turn in tourism but sources close to the zoo say that mismanagement after there star bread winner passed away has caused the zoo to go into crippling debt. Apparently 22 staff members have recently been let go from the zoo. “They have blown millions on poor planning and poor execution,” said former curator Bruce Murdock. “Steve had a lot of dreams but they were massive dreams that only he could fund.”They are trying to do it on the back of Bindi and Terri but I don’t think they can support it.” Former receptionist Amy-Lee Hines said that Australia Zoo was facing closure if drastic measures are not taken.
Teri Irwin maintains that they in fact are not closing the zoo. “Certainly I haven’t shelved Steve’s 10-year business plan,” she said.
“I don’t think it’s a matter of if, it’s a matter of when – so I wouldn’t shelve anything.
“Certainly I’m not going to be going ahead full speed at this time, but we are going ahead.”
And the roundups begin.
The Sweetwater round up activities are well underway. David Sager has been a snake handler for years and says people just need to understand snakes. “Our whole roundup is about teaching people to live with the rattlesnakes,” he said. Sager has one very important rule he follows: “Never take your eyes off the snake while you’re working with them.” The rattlesnake roundup will be March 10-13.
A quote directly from the website of the round up is “The snakes are executed away from public eyes. But they are skinned in full view. A Chinese woman offered the Sweetwater Jaycees (they run the Rattlesnake Roundup as well as the skinning and frying) one dollar per snake gall bladder. To be used in some medicinal concoction believed by some to be as useful as Viagra. ” To visit the site and read more click the link below.

The Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) wants tighter restriction on the sale of exotic pets. Animal charity OneKind agrees with the need for tighter restrictions. Libby Anderson, policy director, said: “We would like to see stronger legislation against the illegal pet trade by making the registration of all exotic animals compulsory; by increasing the efficiency of customs controls and the introduction of stricter penalties for those illegally trading.”
