39 year old Kevin A. Castle of Fort Pierce has been charged with a first-degree misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and up to a $1,000 fine. He was also issued two warnings for improper caging after Florida FWC Officers found an EDB on his back porch in an unlocked enclosure on January 28th. Authorities said the cage was not properly marked or secured and the charged stemmed from a tip from an unknown person. Once again folks the laws in cases like this are very clear. You need a permit and have regulations to follow such as securing and marking the enclosures properly. I feel no pity for the people who get caught doing this I just with the penalties were larger to help sway people like this from further destroying our hobby and tightening up already crappy restrictions on it.

Thailand’s biggest lizard poacher arrested.
Thai police raided Boonlue Prasitsom’s warehouse finding more than 200 lizards in water filled tanks. It is believed that Boonlue was planning to smuggle the lizards to China. Officials believe Boonlue has been poaching lizards for more than ten years and is one of the countries biggest offenders. Last week Indonesian officials also busted a man carrying hundreds of reptiles in luggage.
Connecticut cracking down on exotic pets
We have all heard the story back in 2009 where the woman was mauled by a Chimp in Connecticut. Well now the sate is trying to ban exotic animals including Pythons. A bunch of animal enthusiasts, shop owners and exhibitors voiced their concern at a public hearing on the issue. The Maritime aquarium even said that under the proposed law they would no longer be considered an aquarium and some of their exhibits would become illegal. This folks is what we need to stop. A Chip is not a snake and I am offended that they have to pick on everyone for one morons mistake. Contact info for the DEP is below, please contact them in a responsible manor and voice your opinion no matter if you live in the state or not.

Mother and child held captive by man with snakes
A Swedish woman and her child were held captive for hours by a man who said if they tried to leave he would unleash six green Asian pit vipers and two puff adders on them. Police were eventually able to slip in and free the woman and child and the man surrendered without incident. Animal expert Jonas Wahlstrom, director of the Skansen Aquarium collected the snakes and removed them. There were also 2 lizards found and police said the apartment had garbage all over it.
The reptile enthusiasts of Sweden need to stand up, we all need to stand up and work towards the common goal of keeping reptiles out of the hand of people like this. The vast majority of us are good honest people but there are a few who for some reason chose to do stupid things like this and put a bad light on us as a community.
I urge everyone to contact the local government in Stockholm with the contact info below and tell them a story of responsible reptile keeping.

California ban lifted to import frogs and turtles as food.
Last March the CDFG was ordered to stop issuing importation permits for frogs and turtles for food. The ban on importation was original instated after a 15 year batter with animal welfare groups. The reason for the ban being lifted in short is because a small group of lobbyist say “the ban unfairly targets Asian-American business owners”. Sen. Leland Yee said it was part of the Asian culture to consume frogs and turtles.
Aroyo Toad gets habitat protection.
The U.S. Fish and Wild Life Service has set aside 98,366 acres of habitat for the endangered Aroyo Toad in California. The habitat stretches from areas of Monterrey to San Diego Counties. This new habitat designation ends a decade long fight between the USFWS and the Center for Biological Diversity over the future of the Toad. At the beginning the USFWS attempted to designate 478,000 acres to the Toad but this was scaled back after it was met from opposition from the public and private developers. The final designation for the arroyo toad includes about 72,596 acres of private lands, 21,982 acres under federal jurisdiction, 2,128 acres of state property and 1,660 acres of locally owned lands, said Lois Grunwald, a spokeswoman for the USFWS.
