It’s been a good year for snakes. “Snake season” at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth spans late May to October, and this year the hospital has already seen nine bites compared with 17 all last season, Dr. David C. Smith said.
This spring’s weather was perfect for snakes. It got warm quickly, and there was a lot of rain, said Jonathan Campbell, head of the biology department at the University of Texas at Arlington.
The good news: The snake parade should be over for now. “When it’s hot and dry, it’s very, very unlikely you’ll see a snake,” Campbell said.
