The owner of two pythons who slithered free and found new homes in a nearby house, before being reunited with the reptiles on Monday, is blaming an ex-girlfriend for their escape.
Jacob Lance told CTV News that she didn’t close the tank properly, allowing “Steve French” to escape in July through a hole in the side of the home.
Two weeks later, she let a second snake, “Vira,” get away from her, he said.
The two snakes both ended up in the home of Janet Wilkinson and Chris Forde, who live near Danforth and Coxwell Avenues in the east end.
They found one in the basement near a refrigerator and the second later turned up on Friday in a washing machine.
Both snakes were turned over to an area pet store named Tails.
They had posted YouTube videos and, according to the Toronto Star, posted a lawn sign that said: “Lost your snake? Call us.”
After seeing a news item on television over the weekend, Lance contacted the pet store — and met Wilkinson and Forde on Monday.
“Okay, now I totally recognize you. You were sitting on the porch next door!” Wilkinson told Lance as she held one of the snakes.
“When we found (Vira) in the washing machine, I thought (she) was dead,” Forde said. “And then when I lifted (her), (she) came to life again.”
Lance said he was happy that the snakes were still alive. “(That) they’re been n my hands again is more than I could ask for,” he said.
