In search for African Rock Pythons

According to scientists, a small colony of African Rock Pythons are concentrated to a 6 square mile area east of Miccosukee Resort & Gaming casino in Miami-Dade County and they are trying to do something about it. The expeditions to collect and eradicate them has found only 20 animals since it started back in 2009, Fortunately for the Pythons, Tuesdays expedition did not turn up any snakes.

SF getting sued over golf course

A group of environmental advocacy organizations kept their side of the deal by filing a lawsuit today claiming that the city of San Fransisco violated environmental species acts at the Sharp Park Golf Course. A 60-day intent to sue was issued on November 18th of last year but papers were finally filed today in the United States District Court. Wild Equity the Center for Biological Diversity, National Parks Conservation Association, Surfrider Foundation, Sequoia Audubon Society and the Sierra Club are plaintiffs in the case. “Getting a permit to kill species for golf is an absurd thing for the city to do,” said Neal Desai, associate director of the National Parks Conservation Association. “Not to mention that it’s highly unlikely the federal government would allow it.” Among the demands are to create a habitat restoration agenda for Sharp Park that dose not include golf. Environmentalists claim that frog eggs are damaged when the park is pumped out after floods. The complaint says the city and county of San Fransisco are unlawfully killing frogs and snakes in violation of the Endangered Species Act (“ESA”), 16 U.S.C. §§ 1531-1544

3 more men arrested in Tenn snake bite death

Officials have arrested 3 more men in connection with the Copperhead snake Bite death in Tennessee. Michael Roger Clark and Derek Lee Schrader of Chattanooga and Timothy L. Lunsford of East Ridge. were arrested on what wildlife officials call violating wildlife laws that involve native and imported snakes. No official charges have been filed yet in the death of Wade Westbrook on Jan 29th when he died of an allergic reaction after being bitten by a pet Copperhead.

Walmart sued for snake

A woman has filed a lawsuit alleging that the Silsbee Walmart knowingly allowed a snake to roam the store and bite her son.
Aimee Ray Battle Is suing the Texas Walmart for knowingly allowing a snake to roam the store and not warning customers. Aimee claims her son was bitten on the arm and while it dose not specify what kind of snake it was the suite claims that her son suffered serious and permanent bodily injury because of the bite.
“”The presence of small children on Defendants’ premises was reasonably foreseeable, in that, Wal-Mart is a major department store where children frequently accompany adults and browse the large toy department, The condition of Defendants’ premises created an unreasonable risk of harm to both adults and children because of the risk of being bitten, as was the minor Plaintiff. Defendants knew or should have known that this condition involved an unreasonable risk of death or serious injury to people and particularly children.” Is what the original complaint said.
Aimee is seeking damages for physical impairment, disfigurement, physical and mental pain, suffering, anguish, medical expenses and interest.

Guilty plea for taking protected species.

60 year old Kenneth Dobis of Woodlyn, Pa has given a guilty plea for aiding and abetting the taking of a protected species from the Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge. as well as pleaded guilty to trespassing on a wildlife refuge. He was given 3 years probation and fined $10,000. The charges stemmed from a 2 day investigation by wildlife officials in North Carolina who witnessed the man with his son carying pillow cases and snake hooks. Eventually the stopped them and they were found to be in possession of an Eastern Pigmy Rattlesnake, a protected species under North Carolina law
